About us

We are Avanti West Coast and we’re busy making rail the greener, cleaner, and comfier way to go. A joint venture between First Group and Trenitalia, we’re going all out to transform train travel on the West Coast Main Line. 

For starters, we’re refurbing our entire Pendolino fleet. It’s a bit more than a face lift. In fact, we’re spending £117 million to rebuild each train, using sustainable materials wherever possible. With tables made from recycled plastic bottles, free WiFi, recycling, water points and more, everything onboard feels as good as new. And with 25,000 brand new ergonomic seats across the fleet, we’re looking forward to whooshing more people to their destinations in industry-leading comfort.

On top of this we’re investing £350 million in new Hitachi trains to replace our Voyager fleet, cutting carbon emissions by a whopping 61% in the process. Quieter, roomier and altogether nicer, our new 23-strong fleet starts running later this year. Great stuff onboard includes more reliable Wi-Fi, wireless charging for electric devices and a real-time customer information system.

Sustainability means the world to us. We’re taking real action to tackle climate change, including reducing energy and water use, training drivers in eco-driving techniques and sourcing food and drink from local suppliers. Our goal is to be net zero carbon by 2031. We’re on track.
