Job Title: Senior Safety, Health and Environment (SHE) Manager

Salary: From £65,000 depending on skills and experience

Join our team in a pivotal role as a Senior SHE Manager, where you will oversee safety, health, and environmental (SHE) activities across our high-risk, complex organisation. This hands-on operational role requires strategic thinking, direct engagement with various programs, and regular interaction with leadership to drive SHE initiatives.

What you'll be doing:

  • Developing and implementing robust SHE strategies, policies, and governance frameworks, aiming for systemic improvements and risk management
  • Leading the Risk Reduction Program, focusing on minimizing risks and enhancing safety measures across the organisation
  • Fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including Functional leads, to integrate SHE considerations effectively into business processes at all levels
  • Driving a safety-focused culture among operational leaders through motivational initiatives and change management
  • Innovating and leading in the creation of technical safety solutions and collaborate on projects to improve safety behaviours, engagement, and performance in accident and serious injury prevention
  • Ensuring SHE compliance, providing independent assurance on adherence to management systems and effectiveness of practices
  • Supporting the Head of SHE with management information systems and the coordination of management review processes to ensure optimal function across the business
  • Contributing to specific projects for the Maritime and Land Sector SHE Council, collaborating with teams across Naval Ships, Submarines, and Munitions businesses

Your skills and experiences:

Essential

  • Exceptional organisational and program management abilities
  • Proven experience in managing and leading teams effectively
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of engaging a diverse audience
  • NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent Level 6 Safety qualification, or currently working towards one
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong capabilities in data analysis and reporting
  • Ability to analyse, interpret, and present relevant data and information in a clear and precise manner
  • Ability to prioritise workload in a dynamic environment
  • This position requires regular on-site visits to physically challenging manufacturing and engineering environments, demanding a hands-on approach and resilience in navigating complex settings

Desirable:

  • In-depth knowledge of ISO14001:2015 and ISO45001:2018
  • NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management
  • Practical lead auditor skills, with ISO45001 or ISO 9001 Internal Auditor qualification highly preferred
  • Experience in managing SHE training, with a formal qualification considered a plus
  • Skilled in accident/incident investigation, with formal qualification desirable
  • Prior experience working in Shipyard, Engineering, or Manufacturing environments
